The British sort code is only used for domestic money transfers.
As part of these reforms, each bank branch has been given a unique 6-digit sort code, which identifies the Bank, location and branch number (and assigned to one of eleven clearinghouses operated by the Bank of Ghana).

IBAN imposes a flexible but regular format sufficient for account identification and contains validation information to avoid errors of transcription. Sortcodes are unique to the British and Irish banks for internal money transfers.
