This standard was revised in 2003 and again in 2007 when it was split into two parts. Banks in Northern Ireland can be part of either the British or the Irish clearing system, depending on their country of registration. For example, sorting code 00-00-00 would represent the main bank office, and the first subbank office registered would have the suffix 01.
