A Bank Code is a code assigned by a central bank, a Bank Supervisory Body or a Bankers Association in a country to all its licensed member banks. The rules vary to a great extent between the countries. As part of these reforms, each bank branch has been given a unique 6-digit sort code, which identifies the Bank, location and branch number (and assigned to one of eleven clearinghouses operated by the Bank of Ghana).
To overcome these difficulties, the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS) developed the IBAN which was later adopted as an international standard under ISO 13616:1997. ?? which acts as a one-stop-shop for the payments industry.
