The Extended Industry Sorting Code Directory (EISCD)
The EISCD is a comprehensive database of payments-related information for financial institutions participating in the UK Payment Schemes: Bacs, CHAPS, Faster Payments and Cheque and Credit Clearing. To overcome these difficulties, the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS) developed the IBAN which was later adopted as an international standard under ISO 13616:1997. It identifies both the bank and the branch where the account is held. Before IBAN, users, especially individuals and small businesses (SMEs), used to be confused by the differing national standards for bank account identification such as bank, branch, routing codes and account number. The simple search facility enables you to check bank sort codes, branch addresses, contact details and BIC codes, as well as identifying which banks and institutions accept faster payments.
