Sorting code and BIC allocation Members have ranges of sorting codes that they can allocate to bank offices. It was originally adopted by the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS), and later adopted as an international standard under ISO 13616:1997. The numbering ranges for both are complementary, but do not overlap.
