Sorting code and BIC allocation
Members have ranges of sorting codes that they can allocate to bank offices. Cheque and Credit Clearing Company is the appointed clearance organisations in the UK.
The current standard is ISO 13616:2007, which indicates SWIFT as the formal registrar.
These errors will be trapped by the computer program as they will result in an incorrect format.
In particular cases where 00 is a valid check digit, 97 will not be a valid check digit, likewise if 01 is a valid check digit, 98 will not be a valid check digit, similarly with 02 and 99.
