Why up-to-date sort code data is important
The sort code data used by the UK payments industry is updated constantly to reflect bank and other financial institution changes. Although there is a strong correlation between BIC Codes and sort codes, sort codes are not explicitly encoded into BIC codes (although they are encoded into IBANs).
IBAN imposes a flexible but regular format sufficient for account identification and contains validation information to avoid errors of transcription. Database Samples
