The British and Irish sort codes are only used for domestic money transfers. More of us are using automated payments, whether that means making an internet payment via our online banking or using a Direct Debit to pay a regular bill. Each record on the ISCD has 82 fields. It was originally adopted by the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS), and later adopted as an international standard under ISO 13616:1997.
